Industry experience. A player’s perspective.

We understand the court
from both sides.

Our perspective combines more than 20 years in the industry with firsthand experience as racquet-sports players. Energywise co-founders Scott and Jennifer Van Kerkhove are avid racquet-sports enthusiasts. That connection to the game informs how we approach lighting for tennis, padel and pickleball.

The right lighting system starts with what players need to see: the ball in flight, the playing surface and the space around them. We consider glare, consistent illumination and fixture placement alongside the facility’s technical requirements. Careful design, correct installation and commissioning help the finished system deliver the intended playing experience.

As your trusted advisor for court lighting, we bring lighting design, equipment selection and controls guidance to the project team, helping the installing contractor put the plan into practice. We don’t simply sell a light fixture—we engineer the lighting system around the court and the player experience.

Start with the court.
Design for the experience.

New facilities and existing courts need more than a fixture count. Layout, mounting positions, surroundings, and the intended level of play all inform the lighting plan.

01

Visibility & visual comfort

Consider light distribution, uniformity, and glare in the context of the court and the player’s view.

02

Layout & equipment

Review court geometry, mounting constraints, and appropriate fixture selection through photometric planning.

03

Control & operation

Consider scheduling, zoning, user control, and maintenance requirements as part of the overall system.

Indoor and outdoor applications

Each setting brings its own priorities.

Indoors, structure, ceiling height, and sightlines shape the options. Outdoors, pole locations, surrounding properties, and the wider site require attention.

We assess the application before recommending equipment or defining a lighting target.

Your court-lighting questions.

How much light does an indoor pickleball court need?

For most indoor club and commercial pickleball courts we design, Energywise typically targets approximately 50 foot-candles at the playing surface, with particular attention to uniformity and glare. A foot-candle measures the light reaching a surface. This is our typical design target; the final criteria depend on the facility and intended level of play.

What makes Energywise’s court-lighting approach different?

We engineer the lighting system around the court and the player experience. Using court-specific LED fixtures and project-specific photometric design, we evaluate court geometry, fixture output, quantity, placement, aiming and mounting height before installation. The photometric plan predicts light levels and distribution so the proposed design can be reviewed before equipment arrives on site.

What should I send for a pickleball lighting recommendation?

Send your court dimensions, ceiling height and/or plans, along with the number of courts and whether the facility is indoors or outdoors. Energywise can recommend appropriate fixtures and a layout around those conditions. Discuss your court-lighting project →.

Can you help with an existing facility?

Yes. An initial review can consider existing lighting, mounting positions, controls, and the improvements you want to make.

How many fixtures will we need?

That depends on the court layout, mounting conditions, equipment, and project requirements. A project-specific plan is needed before recommending quantities.

Do you supply fixtures and controls?

Yes. Court Solutions combines design guidance with equipment selection and supply. The exact scope is defined for your project.

Can you guarantee a particular lighting standard?

Applicable requirements and performance targets need to be established and checked for the individual project.
